Sage Makes Managing your Manufacturing Business as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

What makes Sage Unique to the Manufacturing Business?

Sage has tailored its Sage 100 piece to meet manufacturer’s needs through the powerful set of manufacturing modules shown below:

  • Work Order

  • Bill of Materials

  • Material Requirements Planning

These three modules are essential for any manufacturing business in that they all work together seamlessly, each intertwining with the other creating a more smooth and efficient operation within your business.

As a result of utilizing these three modules your manufacturing business will begin to notice:

  • Increased control of the manufacturing process

  • Improvement of supply chain visibility and collaboration

  • Ability to make better and faster decisions

  • Reduction of costs and increased cash flow

What do the Sage Work Order, Bill of Materials, and Material Requirements Planning modules entail?

Work Order Module

This module is the foundation of Sages manufacturing solution. It is best tailored to fit manufacturing businesses with made-to-order or engineer-to-order products due the products requirement of a real-time work order. The Work Order module allows for fast tracking of incoming orders, schedules to complete those orders, and the costs required to complete the manufacturing process.

Some of the benefits provided by the work order module include, but are not limited to:

  • Rapid data entry for work orders

  • Automated material distribution for work orders

  • Extended step description to ensure accurate instructions for shop employees

  • Access to real-time work-in-process information, and much more!

Through the many helpful reports Work Order provides, manufacturers are able to confirm correct inventory levels, ensure required materials are available for production, and analyze production capacities for smooth operations. The Work Order module can also be combined with the Bill of Materials module to automatically merge the required materials to produce a product from the appropriate bill. The paired information like picking sheets and operation tickets for that merged bill will then be generated automatically by the work order.

Bill of Materials Module

While the Sage 100 Work Order module was made to ensure a smooth production process, the Bill of Materials module helps to ensure production was recorded properly. In other words, this module is designed to accommodate the “after-the-fact” recording of production with bills notifying manufacturers of production history, components and miscellaneous charges for completed products, and component requirements for future finished products. The module also helps manufacturers manage their inventory by recording used components out of inventory records and finished products into inventory records. This allows inventory to be updated in real-time, which allows manufacturers the ability to have an exact number of inventory levels to determine if their productivity is on-par with current work orders.

Some of the benefits provided by Bill of Materials include, but are not limited to:

  • Improved product quality and production efficiency

  • Tracking of revised bills to ensure most current bill is being used

  • Up to 99 levels of subassemblies provided for each bill

  • Real-time inventory tracking, and more!

Material Requirements Planning Module

The Material Requirements Planning (MRP) module for Sage 100 may be the most helpful module to use in the manufacturing business. Although the Work Order and Bill of Materials modules are important for production processes, a manufacturer cannot produce a product if the business isn’t fully stocked with the essential materials needed for production. The Material Requirements Planning module helps manufactures ensure their business is fully stocked with the required materials needed to produce a product. It does this by analyzing sales order history and inventory levels to give suggestions on when to purchase raw materials. The MRP module also helps to quickly analyze customer demand according to current open sales orders and sale projections. This way, manufacturers are able to estimate how much they should be producing to meet those demands. Additionally, with MRP you can produce reports that enable you to advise your purchasing managers on the development of products (i.e. whether to place, revise, or cancel orders).

Some of the benefits provided by Material Requirements Planning include, but are not limited to:

  • Simplified scheduling and reduced production costs

  • Ability to project demand and schedule ordering of required material

  • Efficiently consolidate material requisitions by warehouse groups

  • Generate automatic work orders, and more!
